The Next Generation Education team are well equipped to provide assistance in specialist educational areas and one of these is SEND – Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. Recruiting for this specialist area requires great attention and diligence, as these young children are likely to be more vulnerable than others. Due to the extra sensitivity involved, we tend to take a little more time in our candidate search for jobs in special education.

We understand the demands and the rewards of working in SEN, as well as the sheer diversity of needs attached to the children cared for. Some children may struggle with concentration or find it hard to make friends, some may lack reading and writing skills due to dyslexia and some may have physical or mental disabilities; all of these factors mean that it takes a patient, warming and caring person to assist the children with their development.

For Candidates:

For all the jobs in SEN we cover, we look for previous experience working with children or young children with learning disabilities, although each local education authority (LEA) or organisation may state other requirements. Level 2, 3 and 4 qualifications through a college are often desired and any previous work or qualifications in childcare, nursery nursing and play work is also favourited.


There may be an extra need for encouragement and perseverance is key for any SEN school jobs. It will be your duty to make sure every child under your care is feeling comfortable and you constantly tend to their special needs, should they require your help or get upset. This area of education is perhaps the most rewarding, so there’s no doubt that despite it being demanding you’ll feel the benefits of having a job in special needs education.
